Traction Motor Type DR49/02AZ is a series wound, four pole, forced ventilated DC motor with axle roller bearing drive and suspension, specially developed for broad gauge, high speed, Diesel Electric Locomotives.

Fully fabricated or cast-cum-fabricated magnet frame.
Axle roller bearing drive.
Arch bound commutator, dynamically seasoned, with L-shaped teflon ring protection.
TIG welded armature with 100% equalization.
Polyimide film (Kapton), mica paper and PTFE tape based insulation for armature and field coils.
Main field and compole coils bonded with poles for improved heat dissipation.
VPI of armature and field coils in solventless polyesterimide resin (Class 200) to obtain void free insulation.
Armature assembly with sealed bearing arrangement.
Use of oil-resistant cables for motor connecting leads.
Additional support for gearcase mounting.
